About AGA Medical

Our Mission

AGA Medical Corporation is dedicated to the development, design, manufacture, and marketing of nitinol-based occlusion devices and accessories for the minimally invasive treatment of cardiovascular defects and peripheral vascular disease. AGA Medical devices are designed and manufactured using the extraordinary flexibility and shape memory of Nitinol; a nickel/titanium alloy that can be shaped and set using heat to return to a predetermined shape. The unique properties of Nitinol allow AMPLATZER® occlusion devices to be delivered through small catheters, or plastic tubes that can be advanced through a blood vessel to the area of treatment.

Nitinol-Based –

All AMPLATZER devices are designed for placement by interventional cardiologists or interventional radiologists in a non-surgical procedure and environment. Most AMPLATZER products are used in a catheterization laboratory, or "cath lab", setting. Procedures typically require only a small incision or incisions to access a blood vessel for a catheter. Doctors use x-ray and ultrasound imaging technologies to monitor and place the device. Most patients are able to return home quickly after the procedure: Usually the same day or the next day.

Minimally Invasive –

Cardiovascular defects have a major impact on the health and quality of life of those with these congenital heart conditions. Advances in the correction of these defects using AMPLATZER Occlusion Devices has had a significant positive impact on morbidity, mortality and improved quality of life of infants, children and adults with these conditions.

Cardiovascular Defects and Peripheral Vascular Disease –

AMPLATZER Nitinol technology is also used for the occlusion of blood vessels outside the heart, treating a wide range of vascular disease and addressing conditions where the reduction or elimination of blood flow to an organ or area of the body is indicated.

AGA Medical is living our mission through continuous research and development of new devices to address heart defects and circulatory conditions. We are dedicated to unequalled service and technical support to physicians and patients to improve health and quality of life.
